It's so weird for me to be back in High School. It brings back so many memories for me. I have such fond memories of my High School years. I realize that won't be the case for many students. I asked myself, "Self, why are your memories good memories?" It didn't take me long to realize
Simply be you exactly why. I made an agreement with myself, I said, "Self, it's okay for the next four years to simply be you. No matter what anyone else says or does, just be Stevie." What a liberating agreement. Most students who find themselves unhappy are unhappy with who they are, with what they have become, or what they have done trying to be like someone else. Grades are important—very important—you know that. Extra-curriculars are important and helpful. Friends are important.

Your first task is to simply be you. Make the commitment to be the best you—in class, in sports, in extra-curriculars and in whatever you do. The fact is, someone will probably laugh at you...that's called life. Someone will probably dis you...that's called life part II. Someone will probably reject you...(you guessed it) life part III. Someone will probably break your heart or hurt you feelings...life again. These things happen. Misery, however, is an option. You chose how you will respond to these things.

For everyone who points a finger at you in ridicule there are at least another ten who wish they had the courage to be just like you. Be a champion. Enjoy you! You are absolutely, positively, different. I know because everyone is different. Take the time to be the best you that you can be. Life is so much easier that way. In school just play by the rules. Obey authority, do your work, be on time, study hard, avoid the wrong crowd (every school has them) don't be so hard on yourself, play a little, laugh at yourself, dance like no one is watching, forgive yourself for your petty mistakes, and above all have FUN! High School only lasts four years, but your reputation will follow you for a lifetime.
